In the spirit of the end of Ramadan Sallah celebration, the Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu, gave food items to thousands of elderly people in Somolu as their welfare package for the month of June.

The Banquet Hall of Somolu Local Government was full to capacity as thousands of elderly people from 60 years and above throng the council secretariat as early as 7am to attend the programme that was slated for 10am on Monday, a day before Eid Fitri Sallah celebration.

The Council Mayor was filled with joy to see the elderly people with enthusiasm as he promised the 'senior citizens' that the monthly welfare package won't fail their expectations.

Also with the Executive Chairman on the high table include the Council Manager, Mr. Lai Giwa; Hon. Yomi Osunkoya (Leader) and other councilors, Hon. Ayodele Afolabi (Chief of Staff), Hon. While addressing the audience, the Council boss who speak in Yoruba language, urged the elderly not to relent in supporting and praying for the government as the government belongs to everyone and Somolu Local Government will not relent in giving dividends of democracy to the populace, irrespective of their religious, political, tribal or educational differences.

Most of the elderly citizens had to bring a younger helper to carry the food items as it weighs 6kg which they consider too heavy for them to carry due to age or health and many had to carry the items intimately on their heads. The items include garri, rice and sweet beans.

One Deaconess Ranti Odumosu, 72, who also received her welfare package said she really appreciate what the Executive Chairman did, especially by handing over the food items personally to the elderly people. "Dullar has prayed for himself by giving it to us personally, this is like our own monthly meeting and we will be waiting for him to call us again by July. God will bless Dullar's government more", the septuagenarian said.

The Executive Chairman said the government belong to the people and must be taken care of as much as possible. "We value our people and must always be stretching democracy's dividends to everyone, irrespective of their age. These are the elderly people that had done great for this country, they need care", Dullar said.
