2019 General Election: Don't Politicise Our Campuses -Lagos Nans Warn

Wednesday 26th, September, 2018

"You're not to be so blind with patriotism that you can't face reality. Wrong is wrong, no matter who does it or says it." - Malcolm X  in his book, By any means necessary.

It is no longer news that the general elections is around the corner,  the politicians turned jostlers are now more hungry to clinch victory in what ever means that it is attainable. There is nothing wrong at seeking for sympathy or compensation but it is totally immoral to do so where you do not show concern until when you need to covert the rightful instrument into an evil tool in order to suit your aspiration.

The Lagos chapter of National Association of Nigerian Students which is an umbrella body of all students in Lagos State University, University of Lagos, Federal College of Education, Akoka, Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Michael Otedola College of Primary Education, St.  Augustine College of Education, Lagos State Polytechnic, School of Fisheries and Marine Studies, Yaba College of Technology, Lagos State College of Health Technology and every other students in Lagos State under the chairman - Elect, Comrade Busari Abdulqowiyy Adelaja, has noted the abnormalities at which politicians under various political platforms conjured.

Recall, the recent ratings of the top universities and tertiary institutions in the world did not feature any of our tertiary institutions in the top hundred (100) neither has our political institution respected the UNESCO recommendations of the 26% of the budgetary allocation to education in the country. The infrastructures in our schools are fast fading away,  but it is important we appreciate the Lagos state government for improving on the infrastructures in our tertiary institutions even when we still clamour for more.

The Students Union(s) in the University of Lagos and Yaba College of Technology, Akoka has been illegally proscribed and yet,  the men of the underworld are after demonizing our students into their agents of destruction.

Just recently, the political parties fixed prices for nomination forms beyond what the common man can afford, thus, they exemplified their status of not having the students and in extension the masses in their agenda.

On behalf of the NANS Lagos Secretariat, we demand that:

The politicians should stop the politicisation on our campuses else they will be exposed.

The students union aforementioned should be immediately reinstated.

Implementation of the 26% UNESCO  recommendation on education should take immediate effect

That the roads should be made motorable to reduce the burden on commuters.

INEC should take its full independence status.

Education should be free at all level.

While we maintain our status on non-partisanship, we urge the entire students to remain calm as we forge ahead to choose the future we want.

Thank you.

God bless the Nigeria!
God bless Nigerian Students!!!

Rt. Hon. Yusuff Abdulrasaq,
General Secretary - Elect,
Lagos State Axis
